Get your opportunity visit Swannanoa, a fully marble Italian Villa atop Afton Mountain. Swannanoa was built in 1912 by the Dooley’s of Maymont as their “summer cottage.”
We are happy to collaborate and support The Russell Museum/The University of Science and Philosophy (USP) 501c3 educational non-profit for these events. Dr. Walter and Lao Russell founded as well as operated a museum and headquarters here from 1948-1998.
For this event, a small group with gather inside for a historical guided tour at 2:15pm. Once the historical tour completes, you will have time to explore the grounds at your leisure. Pictures are allowed to be taken inside and outside.
Everyone who accesses this private property must purchase a ticket as it aids in our restoration efforts and maintenance to the estate. The house and grounds are closed to the public outside of these times.*Gates are closed until 1:30pm before the event so we ask no one arrive any earlier than that. Once, gates open you may come up and park in lot/grass field in front of the house and check-in at the house.

Ticket includes self-guided tour of The Russell Museum open weekly Thursday and Friday 11-4pm and the 2nd Saturday of each month. A portion of ticket proceeds benefits the non-profit organization.

*Once tickets are purchased online, your party will be added to the guest list for easy check-in at the door. No physical ticket will be necessary. Tickets may be refunded and/or exchanged (if schedule permits) up to one week before original scheduled tour. All sales are final after that, and any unused tickets will be considered a donation.
The home is not fully restored or furnished with any of the original pieces (Maymont has most items) however you can see what the exquisite Tiffany-stained class, fresco paintings, Italian marble, and architecture masterpieces that have help through the test of time especially after laying completely abandoned for 12 years during The Great Depression!

Please be mindful and careful as you make your way around the 112-year-old estate. Railings, sidewalks, and some stairs maybe compromised due to age and weathering.
