Don’t feel like you need to travel all the way to a big city for your New Year’s Eve getaway this year. Waynesboro has everything you need to enjoy small-town hospitality and festivities, lots of tasty food and drink, and refreshing hikes to clear your head on New Year’s Day. 2022, here we come!

Where to Stay

Check into a sleek and luxurious room, cabin, or cottage at the beautiful and private Iris Inn. Choose from mountain views, private hot tubs, and more. You’ll be spoiled with wine and cheese at check in, chef-inspired breakfasts, spa-like bathrooms, and extras like organic amenities scented with relaxing essential oils. Make your trip even more special with a spa treatment or one of the inn’s special packages.

Both Residence Inn by Marriott Waynesboro and Comfort Inn offer convenient access to downtown Waynesboro as well as the interstate and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Better yet, both hotels are pet-friendly, feature a free hot breakfast, and a fitness center to work off all the night before’s excesses.

Where to Party

Bottles will stay open until 2 a.m. for New Years Eve with DJ Groovematic LIVE at Bottles, so plan to stay up late. Along with the usual line up of entertaining bar games and activities at Bottles, there’s a new indoor stage that will feature the talented DJ Groovematic. If you prefer to make your own music, head outside for karaoke and fun around the firepits. Join in a champagne toast at midnight, unlimited mechanical bull rides, and a special treat to ring in the new year. Want to bring a friend? Check out the Couple’s Special for a break on your ticket price.

Heritage on Main will be open for New Year’s Eve with a wonderful menu and a champagne toast at midnight to ring in 2022.

Can you believe it’s been seven years? Seven Arrows Brewing is celebrating seven years of amazing craft beer at its anniversary party. Dance to the music of DJ Lance and watch the ball drop. Stay refreshed with 12 taps, local wine, cider, and a toast at midnight. Hungry? Nobos Kitchen will be open late. There’s no cover charge for this event.

Stable Craft Brewing is hosting a NYE Dance Party w/ DJ Rick Rowe. Plan to enjoy craft beer and cider while you dance and party until 12:30. Buy your tickets online today. They include a champagne toast, a stocked nacho bar, and fun party favors. Want to really let loose? Make reservations at one of Stable Craft’s cozy onsite cabins and stay the night.

E&J’s Deli Pub will host music by Maybe Tomorrow (Trio) on December 31, 7-10 p.m.

Where to Get Some Breakfast

You’ll be hungry and tired after a long night. A big, hearty breakfast at Weasie’s Kitchen will help you fuel up for a busy day. This classic diner offers friendly service and heaping plates of country-cooked, made-to-order deliciousness like omelets, sausage and gravy, pancakes, and combination platters. Get your caffeine fix at Farmhaus Coffee Co. which also serves up tasty treats like sweet potato toast and bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. The French Press offers coffee and espresso, decaf, herbal tea, and light lunch fare.

How to Spend New Year’s Day

You’re probably excited about tackling all your New Year’s resolutions, and getting outside and exercising is likely at the top of that list. Plan to get some fresh air with a New Year’s Day hike. Our picks for winter hikes when the weather permits and the Blue Ridge Parkway is open include the short, steep Humpback Rocks hike that ends on a high, rocky outcropping with expansive views of the Valley. Nearby Dobie Mountain is a flatter loop trail with a nice overlook to the east and the intrigue of attempting to spot wreckage from an old plane crash. Other hiking options include letting the dog off the leash and wandering the trails at Coyner Springs Park. Young families (or those feeling the effects of a late night) will enjoy the short, flat experience of the South River Greenway, especially if there’s snow or ice on the ground. If it’s a really cold day, a mile-long stretch of the Blue Ridge Tunnel trail is sheltered and underground.

Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday. Happy New Year!
