Do you get stressed out over the heavy pressure of planning the perfect, memorable Valentine’s Day date? Forget those last-minute supermarket flowers and stuffed bears holding hearts. And by all means, don’t just plant yourself on the couch with Netflix! Here’s how to level up your date game and celebrate your love with a romantic date night in Waynesboro.

Cuddle all Weekend at the Iris Inn

Spend a very romantic weekend nestled in a private room, cabin, or cottage at the beautiful and luxurious Iris Inn. Enjoy your choice of sunrise or sunset views from the secluded, mountain-top property. Rooms are decorated with high-end modern furnishings, spa-like bathrooms with organic bath products. Some rooms even have fireplaces, private decks, or personal hot tubs. Hungry? You’ll be spoiled with a choice of chef-inspired breakfasts and lunch that you can order electronically from your room. Dinner service in your room or the inn’s dining room is available on Friday and Saturday nights. Entrees include salmon with mango-lime salsa, filet mignon topped with crabcakes, pork tenderloin with mushroom risotto, and more. Save room for red velvet cheesecake or ultimate chocolate mousse cake. Make the weekend even more relaxing with a rejuvenating facial, restorative massage, or invigorating body treatment at the on-site spa. Impress your honey with the romance package that includes flowers, champagne, and dinner, or order special touches like red roses and chocolate strawberries.

Bond over a Classic Movie at the Wayne

Valentine’s Day is on Monday this year, and that means you can celebrate with a classic movie at the Wayne Theatre. My Fair Lady, the original transformation romance, stars Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, and will appear on the big screen at 7. Professor Higgins and Eliza Doolittle strive to break class barriers in this lovable musical featuring tunes like “I Could Have Danced all Night” and “The Rain in Spain.” After the show, wouldn’t it be “loverly” to stroll over to Benny Stivale’s to share a Valentine’s Day staple, the heart-shaped pizza? They always have the staple cheese and pepperoni on deck, but each month they rotate two specials, one with meat and one vegetarian option.

Toast Your Love with Beerwerks-Themed Date Night

Can’t get to Paris for Valentine’s Day? You can still take a trip and get your passport stamped at the 19 breweries along the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail. Grab a passport at a participating brewery and collect a stamp at each one you visit. After eight stamps, you’ll earn a cool t-shirt and bragging rights. Check out Basic City Beer Co., a cool, industrial space housed in the former Virginia Metalcrafters warehouse just outside of downtown Waynesboro. There’s plenty of room to spread out in the taproom and the recently opened Showroom space. Besides delicious craft beer made with artesian spring water, you can get wood-fired pizzas, gourmet sandwiches, and a selection of cocktails at The Showroom. Next, head to nearby Seven Arrows Brewing for fourteen beers on tap. Toast each other by the fireplace and order a yummy meal from onsite Nobos Kitchen, which serves “American fare with a twist.” Can’t get a sitter? Seven Arrow is family and pet friendly, and it offers a lot of games to keep everyone busy. Stable Craft Brewing is another brewery near Waynesboro. It’s located on a working farm where they keep horses and grow their own hops. Visitors love the wide selection of beers and other libations, the beautiful scenery and mountain views, and the onsite agri-pub restaurant that features chef-made appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees like pan-seared steak or salmon, braised lamb, or highland trout. Make a weekend of it by staying in one of the cozy onsite one or two-bedroom suites.

Get Romantic with Dinner and Music

If you’re saving your Valentine’s Day fun for the weekend, head to the Green Leaf Grill, where you can listen to live music every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Green Leaf Grill is known for its decadent food and drinks, including favorites like the peanut butter cup martini with a toffee peanut rim. Start your romantic meal with an order of Nawlin’s Creole shrimp or chipotle raspberry baked brie. Next, try the Black Angus flat-iron steak, the coconut curry, or the pan-seared duck breast and port wine reduction served with mashed potatoes. Save room for ice cream from Kline’s, a Valley staple since 1943. Kline’s has a full range of cones, shakes, flurries, and sundaes, but why not share a banana split with your love?

Share a Sunset and Smash Some Stuff

Does your Valentine enjoy excitement and adventure? Take a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Raven’s Roost overlook (MP 10.6). If you love belaying with your sweetie, Raven’s Roost boasts at least 14 rock climbing routes, but we won’t blame you if you’d rather just watch. Take a seat on the wall and spread out a picnic (source your supplies at Mr. Jamison’s). The overlook provides a wide view of the Shenandoah Valley to the west, so an evening gaze will include the sunset as well as the flights of ravens and other birds that frequent this point. Take the short walk to the rocky outcropping and document your date with some selfies. Next, change up the vibe with a rage room or ax-throwing session at The Havoc House, where visitors can “skip the sauna and let off some steam.” You’ll perfect your skill with bladed and blunt weapons alike as you smash through rooms of electronics, furniture, and highly smashable housewares.
