May means many things: graduation, Memorial Day, the opening of the pools, and baseball games. But it’s also the time of year to bite into a delicious hamburger. In fact, May is National Hamburger Month and Hamburger Day is the 28th. But if you’re so busy you can’t remember if there’s gas in the grill, don’t worry. Waynesboro has a deep burger bench and we’ve got you covered with a roundup of great tastes.

The River Burger Bar is Waynesboro’s prime location for 100% Angus burgers topped with delicious and interesting flavors like applewood bacon, roasted red pepper, avocado, and arugula. Try the classic Waynesburger with tangy dill pickles and herbed mayo or the Chilito Hot Dish, topped with veggie chili, pimento cheese, Fritos, grilled onions and jalapenos. There are menu options for vegan and gluten-free diners as well as a full bar.

E & J’s Deli Pub is a family-owned restaurant that lets you build your own burger made with beef, black bean, or chicken. E & J’s also serves dinner salads and bowls as well as a range of sides including pork bites, wings, steamed shrimp, fried pickles, pierogies, fries, and hush puppies. If you time it right, you can take advantage of the Sunday to Thursday happy hour deals or live music on the weekends.

You’ll love the fresh burgers and generous servings of fries served at the Tailgate Grill. Grab a table or sit at the bar for a beer and a chance to watch the game. This kid-friendly joint prides itself on fast service and easily customizable burgers. Round out the meal with onion rings, cheese fries, cowboy bites, and yummy dessert selections.

Heritage on Main serves up a big menu of burgers, steaks, seafood, and more along with a full bar and lots of beers on tap. If you’re looking for a tasty burger, this is your spot. Pick from the predictable and delicious bacon-topped Basic City burger or expand your horizons with the Medite Rranean burger that’s flavored with feta and tzatziki. Another good choice is the Shrimp Chorizo Burger that includes cream cheese and lemon dill aioli.

Nobos Kitchen prepares tasty apps, salads, sandwiches, bowls, tacos, and burgers onsite at Seven Arrows Brewing. If you have a taste for hot things, try the Heat Seeker burger, a beef patty topped with fresh jalapeno, roasted red peppers, cheddar cheese, and scorcher sauce with Carolina Reaper. Sweeter tooths will like the Islander burger with pineapple slice, jerk sauce, and cheddar cheese. Compliment your burger with a range of sides and a fresh craft brew made with local ingredients.

You might know The Fishin’ Pig as a great place for barbeque or fried catfish, but they also make a delicious burger. Try the ½ pound Hostess burger loaded with your choice of a range of toppings including fried green tomatoes, jalapeños, and pimento cheese. You don’t want to skip the Chesapeake burger that’s seasoned with Old Bay and smothered with creamy crab claw sauce.

Weasie’s Kitchen is a classic diner that offers friendly service and heaping plates of country-cooked, made-to-order deliciousness. Their burger selection includes burgers and patty melts, including one with swiss cheese, mushrooms, and onions. You can also order an open-faced burger topped with chili, onion, and cheese. There’s even a children’s menu for smaller appetites.

Dap’s Ice Cream, Burgers, and Fries flame-grilled burgers are available in single or double patty and cooked to order. Choose from a selection of cheeses and other toppings and grab something on the side like garlic parmesan fries or mac and cheese. If you’re not feeling a burger, try a hotdog or a veggie patty. There’s a kids’ menu and 40 flavors of hand-dipped ice cream for dessert.

Waynesboro’s newest restaurant, The Barn, is already making a name for itself with its fried chicken, but they are also serving up a tasting variety of fresh, never frozen, burgers.

You won’t come to Bottles specifically for the cheeseburger, but it’s a worthy addition to a big bucket of beers and an evening playing games of skill. You’ll find video games, skeeball, darts, air hockey, trivia, karaoke, and some wild fun on the mechanical bull.

Five Guys sells your favorite hamburgers and cheeseburgers that can be finished with bacon and other toppings. Pair your burger with boardwalk-style fries in regular or Cajun, and cool off with a shake. Did you know you could add all kinds of flavors to those shakes? Enjoy cherry vanilla, caramel, and even bacon and banana!
