Different from traditional western methods of woodblock printing, this Japanese technique is a water-based application. There is no need for solvents as the ink is not oil-based and the range of ink colors is only limited to your access to pigments. Highly portable, all the supplies needed to carve and print a work of art can be packed into a knapsack. Students will learn the techniques of this amazing process while carving and printing their own the practice image. for learning purposes, Students will be introduced to this method by creating a print in the Sumizuri-e 墨摺り絵 style of printing meaning that we will be using sumi ink exclusively. Come learn this incredibly versatile water-based print practice that can be packed into a travel bag, set up on the go, and cleans up with just water.

Skill level: All are welcome! Be aware that there is a physical element to woodblock carving and printing and that those with hand joint arthritis may have difficulty.
