Scott and Cathy Balsley, the project founders, are well-known for their lifelong commitment to community service. They have hosted numerous fundraisers where all of the proceeds have been donated to health, medical and youth-related charities. During those many years of supporting area charities, they continually heard from area parents and childrens counselors that a Summer Camp would change the lives of special needs and at-risk children in the Shenandoah Valley, central Virginia and the Southeast United States. Camp LIGHT and the events held at Creative Works Farm are run by volunteers who dedicate their time to make a positive impact in the lives of children in our community.
Camp LIGHT began with a simple notion that, every kid deserves the chance to experience the joys of summer camp. Fun, it turns out, helps children to reach beyond their challenges to discover new strength, hope and resilience. Programs help families release the emotional, physical, and financial burdens caused by serious childhood diagnoses, and provide a peer network that reaches far beyond the LIGHT of a summer campfire.
